Carlis Star are Simon Cowan, Alf Cowan, Shona Melvin, Joel Sloan and Nick Cooke.

Carlis Star write great summer-sounding pop songs with Brian Wilson style harmonies with uptempo sunshine indie pop beats with an influential slice of  The Ramones and Weezer.

Having re-located from Cambridge to Manchester, brothers Simon and Alf recruited best friends Shona Melvin, Joel Sloan and Nick Cooke to complete the band line-up and play the songs live.

Carlis Star had a busy 2008 releasing their debut single Hereby No One and playing live events such as the Leeds Festival, Liverpool Sound City, SXSW in Austin Texas and a club NME tour, including a packed out the KOKO Club in London

The single received airplay from Huw Stephens on BBC Radio One, was added to the XFM national playlist and was named ‘Single of The Week’ on XFM Manchester.

I really love The Goodwill Robot track on their MySpace page.  It includes great Beach Boys harmonies and a Weezer-like sing-a-long chorus you can pogo around to.

Hoopla is short and sweet. The same sixties Beach Boy harmonies but played at break-neck Ramones pace with a chainsaw distorted guitar. Lovely

Think C86 in 2009.  Consider what Smile might have sounded like if Brian Wilson had been influenced by The Ramones and recorded it post-punk!

Carlis Star UK Dates
