Fans buying the Arctic Monkeys latest single from Oxfam Shops today, will have the chance to see Arctic Monkeys headline at Reading /Leeds Festival, as two singles will contain a winning code to get tickets to the festivals when entered online.

In a music industry first, Arctic Monkeys announced that they would distribute the latest single Crying Lightning through the UKs network of 700 Oxfam charity shops, from Monday 17th August, with proceeds going to the help Oxfam’s many life saving projects around the world.

If you are not lucky enough to win the ‘golden tickets’, there is another bonus from the band as forty singles, signed by the band are also being distributed around the Oxfam shops, with a further fifteen being sent out to randomly to those who order the single online from the Oxfam website.

Fans intending to purchase the single from Oxfam shops are being urged by Arctic Monkeys and their record label Domino Records to take any unwanted records and CD’s along to donate to the charity.

Crying Lightning is released as a 7″ limited edition single available only through the Oxfam network for £2.99. The single, the first from the yet to be released album Humbug, features a cover version of the Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds classic Red Right Hand. Each single purchase will come with a download code to allow fans to get an MP3 version of the track for free.

The release through Oxfam represents the first time the charity has sold a new release single for 25 years. David McCullough, Oxfam’s director of trading, said:

“We were thrilled when we heard about the idea for the new Arctic Monkeys single and are delighted to be partnering with Domino on something that will be great for music fans, and help us raise money to fight poverty at the same time. Oxfam shops have always been one of the best places on the high street to pick up a musical bargain or find a rare treasure, and this is a fantastic reason to pay your local shop a visit. ”
