Australian duo Gypsy & The Cat started making music together in a garage in Melbourne little more than a year ago. Blending folk pop with catchy hooks and dreamy pop vocals, Gypsy & The Cat will no doubt be amongst those artists creating the soundtrack of this coming summer.

Young Buffalo – Catapilah

Young Buffalo hail from Oxford Town in Mississippi, comprising three youngsters between the ages of 19 and 21 years old. Recently gaining recognition in the UK where Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe has tipped them for stardom in 2011 calling them ‘a very exciting new band.’

Young Buffalo have been featured on both BBC 6 Music and John Kennedy’s Exposure show on XFM. They will play a couple of gigs in London to coincide with the digital release of the single Catapilah, with a limited edition 7″ vinyl available on February 14th.

Only in his mid twenties now Morley has already forged a successful career as a writer of TV ad music as well composer & lyricist of the highly acclaimed ‘Famished’ musical which is now being performed internationally.

With over fifty gigs already under his belt, Morley has supported blues legend Eric Clapton as well as packing out the famous Ronnie Scott’s club where he holds a monthly residency.

Such is his commitment to live entertainment the recording of his debut album had to be squeezed into a six day period. The resulting Many Fish To Fry will be released in February along with details of a full UK tour and full radio and online promotion.

His single Feet Won’t Fail Me Now is released on January 16th ahead of the album and the ’soft’ release of Freddie Laid The Smackdown is already available on video and as a free download from the Jake Morley website.

It has been a fantastic year for The Pipettes their second album produced by Martin Rushent, Earth vs The Pipettes was received with critical acclaim by everyone from Mizz to Rolling Stone, resulting in sold out tours across the UK, Sweden and Germany.

To celebrate the year and the upcoming festive season The Pipettes are giving away a free Christmas song, Santa’s On His Way, from the FortunaPOP! website.

As well as the success of The Pipettes, FortunaPOP! have produced some of the other top albums of the year with big chart hits from Tender Trap, Darren Hayman and ‘Allo Darlin’, as well as new recordings from The Pains of Being Pure at Heart.

In fact 2011 looks likely to continue that trend for FortunaPOP! as The Pains of Being Pure at Heart are scheduled to release their long awaited second album in March and the label will be celebrating their 15th anniversary with even more stellar releases, special events and shows.

New albums are in the pipeline from Bearsuit, Comet Gain and The Loves as well as a rather special single from 80s pop icons The Primitives.

FortunaPOP! have also had great pleasure in signing Brooklyn’s 60s psych darlings, Crystal Stilts, who will be releasing a new album in the spring, certainly one that I will be looking out for.

While touring as support for Amy Winehouse, Zelada met his current band and in 2009 released his first EP What Do I Know.

Gaining a following on the London circuit, Zelada soon began to sell out shows in the city as well as in his native Madrid. He has since spent his time locked away in various studios recording tracks for his latest EP Story Of Stuff which was released in August this year.

He is also putting the finishing touches to a tracks for his debut album which is scheduled for release next year. This is the first track I have heard from Juan Zelada and have to say I am impressed. He reminds me of early David Gray on this song, probably without the head shaking, and can’t wait to hear more tracks.

Paul Heaton will also be supporting Madness as their special guest on The Madness Tour which is scheduled for November and December this year.

Acid Country is the follow up to Heaton’s widely acclaimed 2008 album The Cross Eyed Rambler, and finds the songwriter in sparkling form yet again with classic melodies tinged with a country edge and maintaining the acerbic and intricate lyrics that have served so well over the decades.

Back in May this year Heaton previewed some of the tracks from Acid Country amongst a set that included classics from his previous incarnations on his Pedals and Beer Pumps Tour.

The tour took Heaton to sixteen pub venues starting at the Rovers Return on Coronation Street and a quick date at Emmerdale’s Woolpack Inn.

Heaton travelled to the venues by bicycle and covered over 1,000 miles in the process, playing some of the best shows of his life. the tour highlighted the plight of local pubs as well as promoting cycling as an environmentally viable method of touring!

The single The Ladders Bottom Rung is released on September 6th, the album Acid Country is released on September 13th.

rumer - slow ep

Only a few days away until the official release of the beautiful debut EP from Rumer, Slow will be available on Monday August 23rd, featuring two extra, as yet un-named tracks.

Taken from the album Seasons of My Soul which is scheduled for release later this year, Slow has really captured the imagination of music lovers across the country.

Selling out the Bloomsbury Theatre within hours of tickets being announced, Rumer will perform at the London venue on September 14th.

Already drawing comparisons to Karen Carpenter, will Rumer satisfy the critics with her new material? We will have to wait and see, but to get fans through the weekend here is a Paul Simon song recorded by Rumer called Long, Long Day.

We don’t know too much about this new band, in fact the only information that has been given to us appears to be shrouded in a cloak of secrecy!

What we do know is that Morning Parade are an indie rock band hailing from Essex, delivering energetic synths and thumping bass lines.

Morning Parade have already enjoyed early support slots alongside Glasvegas,Tynchy Stryder, Florence and the Machine, Ash and Feeder.

The extra laid back Matti Roots releases his latest single OCD on July 26th followed by his long awaited album BeatRoot later in the year.

Unlike so much generic pop these days, Matti’s songs are based on distinctive and unique grooves and chords, which are both fresh and nostalgic all at once.

Like all the tracks on the album, OCD is written, produced, arranged and recorded by Matti with all vocals, keyboards, saxophones and guitars performed by the man himself.

Lyrically, each one of Matti’s songs are based on a simple concept to which almost anyone can relate. In OCD, we find Matti becoming a victim of an unhealthy love fixation, obsessing over her every move, trying to hack into her e-mail, trading dignity for desperation.

While we wait for the single and album, Matti Roots is offering a free digital download of his track Raw.

Izzi Dunn

Following an inspiring hiatus where she toured extensively with some of the world’s most notable artists, West London’s Izzi Dunn is ready to return with her scintillating second album ‘Cries And Smiles’ this summer. Izzi will be performing and showcasing some of her new material at the Roundhouse on 28th May.

‘Cries And Smiles’ is the latest unique chapter from a self-sufficient musician (she writes, produces and plays most of her own material) who has already had a remarkable career.   As a cellist she’s currently performing with Gorillaz and have played for the likes of Mark Ronson, Chaka Khan and Soul II Soul. Izzi has also graced the cream of the UK music scene with her talents, The Brand New Heavies, Roots Manuva, Beverley Knight, Jamelia and Bugz In The Attic are just a few of those who have benefited.

Sophie Delila plays The Summer of Love Festival in London’s Carnaby Street on June 5th

Fashion and Music come together on the Liberty Stage at the Carnaby Street Festival on June 5th, when Sophie Delila performs tracks from her eagerly awaited forthcoming album Hooked, which is released on May 31st.

In a unique move, the record will be available to purchase in-store at Liberty – a retailer that traditionally does not stock music. Special signed copies will also be available.

Sophie Delila is thrilled to have been asked by Liberty’s CEO, Geoffrey de la Bourdonnaye, to perform on their first ever music stage as part of this event. This will be erected just outside the Liberty store.

The event is part of the 50th anniversary of Carnaby Street – 1960 is the year Carnaby began to swing, and the event is a nod to the area’s music heritage, which includes Jimi Hendrix, The Who and The Kinks who wrote about Carnaby Street in their 1966 hit ‘Dedicated Follower of Fashion’.

In addition to Sophie’s performances on the Liberty Music Stage there will also be appearances throughout Carnaby including the cast from Hair, Connett, Red Track, The Small Fakers, The Last Grand and New Vinyl.  The weekend will also include go go dancers, exhibitions and even an elephant parade.
