Demonstrating that Britpop is alive and well in the naughties, Dakota release their new album Heart and Soul today, March 29th, on GRL Records.
Fronted by 23 year old Ben Talbot, the vocals are reminiscent of latter day Brett Anderson without the attitude although the songs are much more pop orientated than the music of Suede.
The band’s first single, the title track from the album Heart & Soul has been aired on a regular basis on BBC Radio 2 in recent weeks and the band have gigged with The Saturdays and Pixie Lott.
The album is steeped with nostalgia but with its feet firmly pointing forward. The emotional delivery of Talbot’s brooding vocals isn’t quite matched by the sweeping guitars of the band, who I feel could add more edge to their style to lift this album slightly out of the mainstream.
But an uplifting young band with a real future none the less.
Dakota – Heart & Soul
The latest track to be released from the Heart & Soul album is We Get Along, another strong single that is sure to get the airplay Dakota deserve, as well as being a big hit for the band.
