You may recall Kaci Battaglia as a teen pop sensation, back at the turn of the century, Kaci then just 12 years old, became one of the biggest new names on the pop scene.
Discovered by Mike Curb of Curb Records, Kaci had three UK hits including the top ten single I Think I Love You and the 100,000 selling debut Paradise.
What followed was a life of huge tours with the likes of Westlife, Backstreet Boys, S Club 7, Atomic Kitten and Jessica Simpson, and award ceremonies including the much-missed Smash Hits Poll Winners’ Party where she won Most Glamorous Newcomer.
Back home in the States, her profile was similarly high with television appearances including a Superbowl 2000 appearance in front of a televised audience of millions.
“I wouldn’t change the experiences I’ve had for anything, but I had been working since I could remember and was missing out on so many of the things that my friends were doing,” she recalls. “I needed to step away for a while to know if this was the life I really wanted.”
Battaglia embraced the life of a regular teenager, studying International Relations and Economics, as well as commencing an unlikely second career as a kickboxing instructor. But music was never far from her mind and a love for Pink, Coldplay and Kanye West inspired her own songwriting.
Now just 21 years old Battaglia embarks on the second part of her music career, releasing the single Crazy Possessive on Warner Bros Records on May 9th.
Boy has she grown up! Accompanied by a memorably intense video, Crazy Possessive is the sound of an artist who has grown up and is returning with a vengeance. The single has already hit #1 on the Billboard Club chart and #4 on the Dance chart. In addition, the track has received almost 2 million plays on MySpace as well as a further million across various YouTube videos.
“It’s electro-pop with an edge – definitely aggressive, which fits the song, but a lot of fun,” says Kaci of the new single. “It’s a strong topic with a positive message, and hopefully a lot of girls will be able to relate to it. I can’t wait to get back to performing for people, I love singing, making music, writing music – the whole process. Bring it on!”
