Lana – Trippy Kind Of Love – single review

Lana's new single is called 'Trippy Kind Of Love'
The Spanish songstress Lana’s new single does exactly what the title says. ‘Trippy Kind Of Love’ is indeed a ‘trippy’ – perhaps even extend that to ‘woozy’ – song about love. It draws from the trip-hop style, leaning strongly towards the commercial end of the music spectrum.
‘Trippy Kind Of Love’ is a departure from her more Latin style, heard on her debut single ‘Don’t Call Me Baby’. There are touches of the jazz singer in her lovely voice, particularly on the laid back B-side ‘Rainbow Song’, where she recalls Madeleine Peyroux and Roisin Murphy’s seductive and sultry vocals.
Lana is inspired by the music of days gone by, as is heard in her heady mix of styles and nostalgic intonation. Such influences include Tom Waits, Aretha Franklin and 50s rock n roll.
She has toured extensively in the jazz world and the excursion into solo work has let her own musical freedom shine through, the songs embodying the kind of music she clearly adores.
You can hear ‘Trippy Kind Of Love‘ on Lana’s MySpace page. It is out on 6th April on Monumental Music Club records.
She will do the following dates in April:
April 2nd: Water Rats, London
April 12th: The Bedford Balham, London
May 18th: Vibe Bar, London
