It sounds like one of those crazy ideas that you agree to after a round of heavy drinking, but for those lovely boys from Scouting for Girls, the idea has become a reality.
The trio have agreed to take part in a 60 mile bicycle ride from London to Brighton for Charity, but of course they will not be riding ordinary bicycles – they will be riding Raleigh Choppers!
One of the iconic bicycle designs of all time, the Raleigh Chopper was to the discerning child the ultimate in aesthetics, but sadly not so great in practise. The expression ‘going nowhere fast’ was never more apt than when referring to the Chopper and a trip to the shops was about as far as you could travel with ease.
So hats off to Scouting For Girls who are allowing plenty of time to complete the trip, before performing an intimate acoustic show on Sunday evening at the Komedia in Brighton.
The trip will start off from Wandsworth Common at 9am on Saturday August 29th and the band are expected to arrive at the Grand Hotel in Brighton at around 3pm on Sunday 30th, hopefully they will not be riding through the night.
Tickets for Sunday evenings show are on sale at the Wellchild shop at £30 each with all proceeds going to the Wellchild Charity. Fans who would like to donate towards the ride or sponsor the band should visit the Just Giving website.
And if you think that the band are in good shape to make the charity ride, then think again, Roy Stride says;
“We don’t quite know what we’re letting ourselves in for with this one, but we’re all pretty excited by it. Our ‘training’ has been sporadic at best, but we hope to get in shape a little nearer the time. Wellchild is a fantastic charity and we want to do whatever we can to help them out. Please sponsor us! It’s going to be the toughest thing we’ve ever done!”
Wellchild is the national charity for sick children and provides practical help for children and their families. It is funded solely by the people of the UK. Scouting For Girls are official ambassadors of the charity
