Pop band Long Blondes singer, Kate Jackson, feels that her band is underrated because they have a female singer. She compares her band to Debbie Harry’s Blondie, who she feels suffered similar treatment to The Long Blondes, in the seventies.
“A lot of male bands wouldn’t have suffered the criticism they did even if they put out the same sh*t album year after year, which a lot of the new wave bands did.
Blondie were very innovative but they still don’t get that sort of acclaim. I think it’s because of the woman thing, you know. I think they’ve always been a bit underrated.
The truth is Blondie were never underrated, and really there is no comparison. Debbie Harry was an icon of the punk and new wave era. The Long Blondes are a pop band that still have a long way to go. Here is a clip from Kate and her band, there is no comparison:
