Man Tries To Claim Royalties For Police Hits

John Williams - Tuesday 22.04.08, 11:13am

The Police en 2007The Daily Mirror has reported that a chef from Reno Nevada is trying to sue pop singer Sting, saying that he helped the star write two of his biggest hits.

48 year old Roy Smith claims to have met Sting in the late seventies and told him about an ex girlfriend and former prostitute he knew called Roxanne. Blow me down if the Police singer didn’t go home and write a song about it!

Smith also made the mistake of telling Sting that he had once written a message to his mother, put it inside a bottle and thrown it out to sea. We all know the outcome. Sting once again want away and produced a hit song from Smiths story.

Smith is claiming a share of the royalties for both songs.

To top it all Sting allegedly called Smith about the songs some years later, but the message was not passed on by Smiths’ mother who thought it was the real police after her son.

Well it gave me a laugh.
