Robbie Craig is no stranger to the world of music having written hit songs for others for much of his life. He received the Ivor Novello and DI Club & Music Award for his song Woman Trouble, recorded by Artful Dodger and Robbie Craig featuring Craig David.

His debut album as a solo artist is Soul Alchemy a careful blend of laid back R&B, Soul and Pop music crafted around a simple guitar backing with Craig’s vocal harmonies driving the album along.

Changeis the current single from Craig, a wonderfully simple arrangement that typifies this album. Craig has a beautiful white soul boy voice that is bound to draw comparisons with James Morrison, particularly on this track, but that is where any similarities end. Both artists at their best however are reminiscent of Stevie Wonder and this is undoubtedly our ‘Motown’ for the twenty first century.

While Change is an excellent track and a perfect choice for lead single, there are other stand out tracks such as the opener I Promise, Her Or Me,  Will I Ever Learn and If You Love Her.

Craig certainly knows a thing or two about structuring a song with a big chorus and ample opportunity to multi layer the vocal tracks and pump up the volume from the crooning verses.

You would expect some well written songs from a writer of this magnitude, but the simplicity of the album may surprise some. That is the strength of the album, few if any gimmicks, just an incredible voice introducing some top music.
