Ronan Keating has insisted that he did not split the successful boy band by wanting to pursue his solo career.
The band split in 1999, at the peak of their popularity, and Keating went on to enjoy a successful spell as a solo artist. But, he says it was the five of them that had decided to split the band, although it was never intended as anything more than a break.
‘Yes, I led the break up’ said Keating, in an interview with Hello magazine, ’but I fully intended to come back; we all did.’
Keating admits to being surprised at how his solo career took off, describing it as a crazy time, ‘I was riding the crest of a wave, and I couldn’t drop it.’
The band reformed for Children In Need last year, when they performed a medley of their hits. The grown up version of Boyzone performed in London earlier this year, and will tour the UK this summer.
