Forty years after losing out to Spain in the 1968 Eurovision Song Contest, it has been alleged by Spanish producer Montse Fernandez Vila that the voting was fixed and Sir Cliff Richards song Cogratulations should have won the contest.
Why this should come to light now is a mystery to me. Does anyone really care?
Forty years ago Spain was a dictatorship and it is suggested that Franco bribed judges to ensure that the Spanish entrant La La La by Massiel would win the contest. While Congratulations was the favourite by a long chalk, poor old Cliff had to settle for second spot.
Thankfully, although Eurovision TV director Bjorn Erichsen could not rule out a fix he has said there will be no investigation into the allegations.
