The Pink Funhouse Tour

Edwin Huxley - Wednesday 13.05.09, 14:16pm

Pink was born Alecia Moore in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, USA. After playing in a high school band she received her first recording contract with LaFace Records when at the age of 16 she joined an R&B trio called Choice.  The band recorded one unreleased album before splitting up.  It was at this time Alecia Moore became known as simply as Pink and was offered a solo record contract with LaFace.

Pink found instant commercial success with the release of her debut album, Can’t Take Me Home in April 2000 which to date has sold over 5 million copies worldwide.

Can’t Take Me Home gave Pink her first two US hit singles, but it was her third single, You Make Me Sick, that launched her career in the UK.  You Make Me Sick was also included on the soundtrack of the film Save The Last Dance in 2001.

In 2000, Pink supported N Sync on their North American tour and in 2001 recorded a cover version of the 1975 hit Lady Marmalade with Christina Aguilera, Lil Kim and Mya for the film Moulin Rouge.

In 2001 Pink released her second album, Missundaztood and employed the producing skills of 4 Non Blondes vocalist Linda Perry.  Pink was unhappy at being labelled a pop star and attempted to turn herself into a more serious pop rock chic that would be credited for her singer song writing talents rather than a sex symbol.

Missundaztood included hit singles Get The Party Started, Don’t Let Me Get Me, Just A Pill and Family Portrait; and the commercial success of the album – it went gold or platinum in over 20 countries selling over 12 million copies – gave Pink the credibility and appreciation she had wished for.

Pink’s following two albums were not so commercially successful.  Both Try This (2003) and I’m Not Dead (2006) fell short of her peak though receiving enough attention to keep Pink in the limelight.

But in November 2008 she released her fifth album, Funhouse; and with it the commercial success and critical acclaim returned.  The first single to be taken from the album, So What, went to number one in the United States, UK, Australia, Canada, Germany and New Zealand.

The Pink Funhouse Tour started on 24th February in France and will see her play live concerts in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the United States.  An extra London show at the O2 Arena has been added to the UK leg of her tour due to popular demand for concert tickets.
