Neville Staple of The Specials has told the BBC 6Music that the band have been performing together, with thoughts of a reunion, but warned that it depends on how the band gel in rehearsals.
Staple said,
“We’re just seeing how it goes, if it gels it gels. If it doesn’t, you don’t wanna go out there as some old geriatric - not me. If we do a few more rehearsals and it doesn’t seem like it’s gelling, we ain’t gonna do it because it would be pointless. Y’know, you don’t want them going ‘Oh god, seen them the other day, the old fogies’ - so we’ve gotta get it right.”
The group had several hits between1977 and 1981 when they split up. They still have a dedicated fan base who are anxious to see the band play ‘live’ again.
Here is a clip of my favourite Specials track Do Nothing, from Top of the pops 1980.
