Following their recent Top 40 successes with Numb and Flyaway, and their Radio 2 playlisted track Choices, Honey Ryder have announced details of their new single Love In Time and debut album Rising Up.

Love In Time, a cover of a relatively unknown Roy Orbison track which was posthumously released by Roy Orbison’s label on a compilation of B Sides and demo recordings, has since been added as a bonus track on Honey Ryder’s forthcoming debut album Rising Up.

The London-based duo, Martyn Shone and Lindsay O’Mahoney have just returned from performing at Midem in Cannes, and from Austin, Texas where they performed at the SXSW Music Festival.

Subsequent international deals have followed for the duo, with EMI Canada being the first to snap them up. News stories on them have also featured on national TV in France and Japan, where they have a growing army of fans.

There is no doubt that Honey Ryder are currently one of the hardest working bands on the UK live circuit. The band have recently played to over 200,000 people across 50 live dates, taking in venues including the Royal Albert Hall and Birmingham Symphony Hall, and performing in front of 10 million viewers on BBC TV for Children in Need alongside The Script and Enya. International interest has also been sparked in the band following shows in Texas, France and Canada.

Honey Ryder have, through lateral thought and sheer hard graft, generated considerable industry and consumer interest in their epic brand of radio friendly pop rock.

A recent full page feature in Music Week highlighted the unique funding model they have devised for the project, which involves selling shares in the future profits from income they expect to generate. The band have so far raised, completely on their own, an impressive sum of over £250,000 to fund their promotional campaign.

The band’s unique business model has, impressively, caught the eye of former EMI CEO Eric Nicoli who has taken the role of personal mentor for the duo who are proving to have a fast growing fanbase – including the likes of Annie Lennox, Terry Wogan and Janice Long. Wogan has called Honey Ryder “mean, moody & magnificent”, while Long has already booked the band for a 2nd live session towards the end of June for her Radio 2 show.

Honey Ryder new single Love In Time is to be released on 13th July. Their debut album, Rising Up is out now.

Dublin-born Marc Carroll follows his recent single, Always, with a brand new album, Dust Of Rumour, due for release on 13th July on High Noon Recordings.

The album was written in Los Angeles where Carroll now resides, and recorded by Adi Winman and mixed by Graham Sutton at Dilute Studios in Surrey.

Marc Carroll’s career has had some peaks and troughs as well as the ooccassional ‘curve-balls’ thrown in for good measure.

His previous albums Ten Of Swords (2003) and World On A Wire (2005) received high accolades from the likes of Mojo and Uncut music magazines here in the UK. He also released an album orf rarities, All Wrongs Reversed (2004) of which Brian Wilson himself was a fan.

You can clearly hear Marc Carroll’s influence on Dust Of Rumour. Brian Wilson, Bob Dylan and The Byrds are all present in large doses here.

On tracks like What’s Left Of My Heart and the current single, Always, Carroll does a perfect impression of Bob Dylan at his huskiest. While the folk pop of Now Or Never is perfectly reminiscent of the jangling summer haze of The Byrds.

Dust Of Rumour is a great acoustic folk pop album.

Blur made a low key return to ‘live’ music with an intimate show on Sunday at The East Anglian Railway Museum in Colchester, the scene of the Britpop band’s first gig back in 1988.

Around one hundred and fifty guests made up from friends, family and fans witnessed an intimate show featuring Blur performing their greatest hits, ahead of some big summer festivals and shows, including two days at London’s Hyde Park.

Blur release a double album entitled Midlife: A Beginners Guide to Blur later this month. The album will serve as a timely reminder, should one be needed, of what to expect in the band’s upcoming summer gigs.

It’s been the best part of three years waiting for the follow up to Paolo Nutini’s sticky sweet, but exceptionally good, soul/pop album debut, These Streets and in that time Nutini has taken some giant steps-in many directions.

Sunny Side Up is the latest offering from the Scottish singer/songwriter and the album is a surprise number one in the UK album charts this week. Fans of These Streets may be disappointed that the slick production evident on that album, has given way to a more informal, impromptu, less is more, jamming session that meanders through a whole spectrum of musical genre’s.

While it doesn’t always come off, Nutini turns his silken tonsils to Reggae, Folk, Country, Soul, Rock and even a touch of Skiffle, adding something of his own to each genre.

There is distinct lack of future ’single’ material on this album, unlike These Streets, that seemed to be jam packed with them. Sunny Side up is the work of a young singer maturing fast, a vast showcase of Nutini’s unique and undoubted talent.

It is not as instant as it’s predecessor but Sunny Side Up is growing on me all the time, current stand out tracks are the single Candy, 10/10, and Pencil Full of Lead.

Take That were formed in Manchester in 1989 amidst the heady daze of the ‘Madchester’ indie rock / rave crossover. They went on to become the most successful boy band of all-time in British music.

Between 1991 and 1996 they sold no fewer than 19 million albums. But not long after the departure of Robbie Williams, Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, Jason Orange and Mark Owen announced Take That were to split. Robbie went on to have a successful solo career while the rest of Take That were relegated to the ‘B list’.

It wasn’t until 2005, following a well received documentary and success of a newly released greatest hits album, Never Forget - The Ultimate Collection, that Gary, Howard, Jason and Mark, announced a 2006 Take That reunion tour of the UK. The tour was a massive success, and in 2006 they released their first studio album in ten years, Beautiful World.

Beautiful World included the single Shine, which won Best British Single at the 2008 BRIT Awards. Take That received four nominations for the 2008 BRIT Awards including Best Album and Best British Group, and won Best Live Act and Best British Single.

In November 2008 Greatest Day was the first single to be released from their fifth studio album, The Circus. Both debuted at no.1 in the UK singles and albums charts.

Since their successful reunion, rumours have continually circulated that Robbie Williams is either to join the band on stage either permanently or for a one-off comeback. So far, neither has proved to be correct. Nevertheless, Take That concert tickets are hot property this summer.

This summer Take That are playing a UK and Ireland stadium tour. I’m not sure what Robbie Williams is up to.

Pink was born Alecia Moore in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, USA. After playing in a high school band she received her first recording contract with LaFace Records when at the age of 16 she joined an R&B trio called Choice. The band recorded one unreleased album before splitting up. It was at this time Alecia Moore became known as simply as Pink and was offered a solo record contract with LaFace.

Pink found instant commercial success with the release of her debut album, Can’t Take Me Home in April 2000 which to date has sold over 5 million copies worldwide.

Can’t Take Me Home gave Pink her first two US hit singles, but it was her third single, You Make Me Sick, that launched her career in the UK. You Make Me Sick was also included on the soundtrack of the film Save The Last Dance in 2001.

In 2000, Pink supported N Sync on their North American tour and in 2001 recorded a cover version of the 1975 hit Lady Marmalade with Christina Aguilera, Lil Kim and Mya for the film Moulin Rouge.

In 2001 Pink released her second album, Missundaztood and employed the producing skills of 4 Non Blondes vocalist Linda Perry. Pink was unhappy at being labelled a pop star and attempted to turn herself into a more serious pop rock chic that would be credited for her singer song writing talents rather than a sex symbol.

Missundaztood included hit singles Get The Party Started, Don’t Let Me Get Me, Just A Pill and Family Portrait; and the commercial success of the album – it went gold or platinum in over 20 countries selling over 12 million copies - gave Pink the credibility and appreciation she had wished for.

Pink’s following two albums were not so commercially successful. Both Try This (2003) and I’m Not Dead (2006) fell short of her peak though receiving enough attention to keep Pink in the limelight.

But in November 2008 she released her fifth album, Funhouse; and with it the commercial success and critical acclaim returned. The first single to be taken from the album, So What, went to number one in the United States, UK, Australia, Canada, Germany and New Zealand.

The Pink Funhouse Tour started on 24th February in France and will see her play live concerts in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the United States. An extra London show at the O2 Arena has been added to the UK leg of her tour due to popular demand for concert tickets.

The Royal British Legion today announced a major one off music festival to be held June 20th on the majestic grounds of historic Blenheim Palace in the beautiful Oxfordshire Cotswolds.

An event like no other on the summer festival calendar, Festival for Heroes will provide a fun family kick-off to national celebrations for Armed Forces Week honouring Service personnel past, present and future. The nation’s first ever Armed Forces Day, supported by the Legion, takes place the following weekend on June 27th.

“We owe a huge debt to our brave Servicemen and women serving in places like Iraq and Afghanistan,” said the Festival’s director Jack Knowles, 20, founder of the Armed Forces social networking website Forces365.com. “We felt the best way to pay tribute to them was through a musical celebration to raise funds for a great cause like the Legion. Those attending will be part of history, and hopefully we can raise over £1 million.”

British hip-hop and R’n'B artist Ironik appeared at the Legion’s national headquarters to help launch the Festival, performing his summer of 2009 hit “Tiny Dancer (Hold Me Closer)”, a chart-climbing single given a rare endorsement by Elton John. Other confirmed guests on the Festival card include BRIT Award winner and multi-platinum seller Gabrielle, live rockers The Automatic in their only festival date this year, Classical BRIT winners boy band Blake and special guest Lulu.

BRIT award winner Gabrielle said of her involvement: “I’m very honoured to have been asked to perform at the Festival for Heroes, it’s an amazing cause and deserves as much support as possible.”

Ironik was joined at the Festival launch by injured war hero Dave Hart, 32, of Devon. Mr Hart was serving as a Lance Corporal in the Territorial Army when in 2004 he and several of his colleagues in his battalion, The Rifle Volunteers, were involved in a suicide car bomb attack in Kabul, Afghanistan.

After waking up from a coma weeks later in Germany, the Legion stepped in to assist Lt Cpl Hart through his recovery and eventual retraining. He is now in his final year of reading International Relations and History at Exeter University.

Flanked by two supportive female TA soldiers, Mr Hart said: “It means a tremendous amount to me knowing that those who serve and sacrifice are honoured and remembered by the British people. Let’s pull together to ensure this concert is a great tribute to our British Armed Forces.”

Also confirmed are GO:Audio, the smash hit dance group BootyLuv, electronic string quartet Escala (made famous by Britain’s Got Talent), Ultrabeat with the massive hit “Pretty Green Eyes”, and DJ Bodyrox appearing with solo artist Lucianna.

Many surprise VIP guests are still to come and will be announced through the Festival for Heroes website.

“If there’s a spiritual home for heroes, then it must be Blenheim Palace - the birthplace of Winston Churchill,” said the Legion’s Director of National Events and Fundraising, Russell Thompson OBE. “We’re proud to be part of this epic event and we hope that it will raise £1 million to assist us in our work caring and campaigning for the Armed Forces family.”

The Royal British Legion is the nation’s leading Armed Forces charity providing care and support to all members of the British Armed Forces past and present and their families. It is also the national Custodian of Remembrance and safeguards the Military Covenant between the Nation and its Armed Forces. It is best known for the annual Poppy Appeal and its emblem the red poppy.

The Lights release their new single, Low Hundreds on Monday 11th May through Crash Records. It’ll be available from iTunes and all major download sites.

Low Hundreds was recorded at The Magic Garden Studios and produced by Gavin Monaghan who has recently recorded with Travis, Editors & Kings of Leon.

The Lights are a lovely burst of energy, consisting of five bright-eyed individuals with the heart and determination to be heard all over.

Their sound is like nobody else, unique, eclectic and intimately epic with a touch of old enough to know better! With a highly promising array of unique sounds, ranging from soft and passionate to loud staggering moments, they’ve perfectly blended each other’s influences and abilities to create one magnetic and appealing force.

‘As lyrically adept as Idlewild but as melodically breezy as a hard rock Teenage Fanclub, they are a challenge to pigeonhole. Imagine Elvis Costello writing lyrics for ELO, fronted by James Dean Bradfield’s younger siblings!’ – NME

For the band, 2008 saw the release of the highly successful single The Score, which openly challenges the guitar band stereotype, described by UK Music Review as ‘Full of charm, energy and personality’.

This was followed by the release of their 5 track EP The Fair Weather Travelling Companion, which saw the band moving away from the pop/rock sounds of The Score to something more folk orientated. The EP was met with a wealth of positive reviews.

The live Lights experience is electric and frequently spine-tingling, rather than a bunch of college kids recycling one catchy hook, they actually sound like a real working class band with the fire, heart and poise that playing and writing together for years has afforded them.
